What happened

Prime Snax Incorporated, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, recalled approximately 90,000 pounds of beef jerky products produced before February 2, 2014, because they were processed with a releasing agent containing soy lecithin, an allergen that was not declared on the packaging. The recalled products were shipped to retail locations nationwide and include multiple brands and varieties: Arizona Jacks Brand (in various sizes and flavors including Original, Peppered, and Hot varieties), Desert Star Brand, Southwest Trail Brand, Terrell Brand, and Kettle Creek Brand. The affected packages bear establishment number "EST. 18951" inside the USDA Mark of Inspection and have dates prior to August 11, 2015.

The problem was discovered during a label review by a USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service inspector. The company believed the releasing agent was a processing aid that did not require label declaration. No adverse reactions from consumption of these products have been reported. The record does not specify a remedy for affected consumers. Anyone concerned about a potential reaction should contact a healthcare provider, and consumers with questions about the recall can contact Jackie Pappas at (801) 977-0742.
