What happened

Walker's Food Products Co., a North Kansas City, Missouri establishment, is recalling approximately 2,446 pounds of chicken salad products because they contain soy protein concentrate, a known allergen, that was not declared on the labels. The recalled products include 5-pound and 1-pound plastic tubs of Walker's All White Chunky Chicken Salad with packaging dates between June 6, 2013 and January 23, 2014, and 5-pound tubs of Walker's White Chicken Salad Florentine with packaging dates between June 6, 2013 and January 27, 2014. These products were distributed to wholesale and retail locations in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The problem was discovered during a routine label review and occurred after a change in product suppliers without a corresponding label change.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30, 2014 Walker's Food Products Co., a North Kansas City, Mo., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,446 pounds of chicken salad products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products are formulated with a soy protein concentrate, a known allergen, which was not properly declared on the labels. The products subject to recall include: 5-lb. plastic tubs of iWalker's All White Chunky Chicken Salad” with packaging dates between June 6, 2013 and Jan. 23, 2014 and use by/sell by dates between July 26, 2013 and March 14, 2014 and sold to wholesale locations in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. 1-lb. plastic tubs of iWalker's All White Chunky Chicken Salad” with packaging dates between June 6, 2013 and Jan. 23, 2014 and use by/sell by dates between July 26, 2013 and March 14, 2014 and sold to retail locations in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. 5-lb. tubs of iWalker's White Chicken Salad Florentine” with packaging dates between June 6, 2013 and Jan. 27, 2014 and use by/sell by dates between July 14, 2013 and March 6, 2014 and sold to wholesale locations for distribution in Kansas and Missouri. The products subject to recall bear the establishment number iP-13335” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The problem was discovered by an FSIS in-plant inspector during a routine label review. The problem occurred after a change in product suppliers without a corresponding change in label. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. For individuals allergic to soy, consumption of soy protein concentrate presents a reasonable probability of serious health consequences or death.
