Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling one 2022 Outlander vehicle due to a software programming error in a welding robot that may have caused the center pillar to be welded incorrectly. This defect reduces the strength of the vehicle's body structure and fails to meet federal safety standards for side impact protection, seat belt assembly anchorages, and roof crush resistance, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
If you own an affected vehicle, you should contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820 to arrange repurchase and replacement of your vehicle at no charge. Reference recall number SR-21-009 when you call.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 214, "Side Impact Protection" 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages" and 216, "Roof Crush Resistance."
