What happened

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2021-2022 Freightliner Custom XC Chassis vehicles because the adjustable brake pedal assembly may be missing a return spring. This defect can cause brake lights to remain illuminated after the driver releases the brake pedal, preventing other motorists from receiving a clear signal of the vehicle's braking status. In certain towed vehicles, the brakes may also remain engaged after the brake pedal is released, creating additional crash risks.

DTNA will notify owners of affected vehicles. Dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly and install a return spring if necessary at no cost to the owner. The recall was expected to begin April 24, 2021. Owners of affected vehicles should contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-877.
