BMW is recalling certain 2020-2021 X3, X4, 5 Series, and M Series vehicles because a small portion of the rearview camera image may be slightly obscured. If drivers rely solely on the rearview camera image, this reduced view could increase the risk of a crash or injury. The affected vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, which governs rear visibility.
BMW will notify owners of the recall, which began on November 18, 2020. Dealers will inspect the rearview camera system and update the software if necessary. Owners of affected vehicles should contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
