BMW of North America is recalling certain 2020 BMW X1 and X2 models, along with 2020-2021 MINI Clubman and Hardtop models, due to a defect in the rollover sensor within the air bag control unit. If a rollover crash occurs, the head air bag, seat belt pretensioners, and other safety systems may fail to deploy as intended, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
BMW dealers will replace the air bag control unit at no cost to owners. Affected owners should contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525 to arrange the replacement.
