Motor Coach Industries is recalling certain buses from model years 2015-2020, specifically the D4000, D4500, D4505, J4500, J3500, and D4005 models. The recalled buses have a defect in their seat belts that prevents them from extending properly from their retracted position, making the seat belts unusable and increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
MCI will notify owners of the recall and arrange for dealers to inspect and replace the affected seat belts at no charge. An interim notification was sent to owners on June 26, 2020, and the recall process began on January 13, 2021. Owners of affected buses should contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947 and reference recall number SB 482 to arrange for inspection and replacement of their seat belts.

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2015-2016 D4000, 2015-2020 D4500 and D4505, 2016-2020 J4500, 2018 J3500, and 2017 D4005 buses. The seat belts may not extend from the retracted position, rendering the seat belt unusable. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
