Is my product affected?

1999 BMW 328I; 1999 BMW 323I

  • Brand BMW

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

BMW is recalling certain 1999 323i and 328i vehicles equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) manufactured by Takata. These inflators were produced at a specific facility and lack phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the inflators may absorb moisture, which can cause them to rupture or result in underinflation of the air bag cushion.

If an inflator ruptures during a crash, metal fragments could strike the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag may not properly protect occupants in a crash. Both scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death. According to the recall notice, affected owners should contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Dealers will inspect the driver air bag inflators and replace them as necessary at no charge. BMW recommends that owners do not continue to drive their vehicles.
