What happened

Mazda is recalling certain 2007-2012 CX-7 and CX-9 models, as well as 2009-2012 Mazda6 vehicles. These vehicles have passenger-side front air bag inflators that may explode due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to high humidity, temperature, and temperature cycling. An inflator explosion could result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Owners should not drive their vehicles until the repair is completed. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator at no charge. Owners can contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, and reference recall number 1317F.
