What happened

Mazda is recalling certain 2011-2013 Mazda6 vehicles that were sold or ever registered in specific northeastern and midwestern states due to corrosion of the front cross member caused by road salt exposure. This corrosion can weaken the mounting point for the passenger side lower control arm, which may unexpectedly change the steering alignment and increase the risk of a crash.

Mazda will notify owners at no cost, and authorized dealers will either install a side member and drain hose with rust-protective wax, or install a drain hose and an improved front cross member. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 4 to arrange service, and can reference recall number 2818I.
