Honda is recalling certain 2005-2015 model year Acura and Honda vehicles due to a defect in the driver-side frontal air bag inflator. The inflator may explode due to propellant degradation after long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature fluctuations, potentially sending sharp metal fragments at the driver or other occupants, which could cause serious injury or death.
Affected vehicles include certain model years of the Acura ILX and RDX, and Honda CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Fit EV, Insight, Ridgeline, RL, TL, and ZDX. Honda will notify owners and replace the driver frontal air bag inflator free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 to arrange the replacement, referencing Honda recall numbers S5B or W59.
