Subaru is recalling certain 2010-2014 Tribeca, WRX, Legacy, and Outback vehicles, as well as 2010-2011 Impreza vehicles and 2010-2013 Forester vehicles sold or registered in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The passenger frontal air bag inflator modules in these vehicles may explode during a crash due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. An explosion could send sharp metal fragments at the front seat passenger, driver, or other occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.
Subaru dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator at no cost to owners. The recall began on January 25, 2019. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 to arrange the replacement. Subaru's recall number is TKC-19.
