Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2018 GLE and GLS models (including various trim levels) because the rear brake caliper pistons may not have been correctly coated. This defect can cause gas to temporarily release into the rear brake hydraulic circuit, which reduces braking performance and increases the risk of a crash.
MBUSA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will bleed the rear axle brake system at no charge to correct the problem. The recall began September 14, 2018. An affected consumer should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or reference recall number 2018080013.
