What happened

McLaren Automotive is recalling certain 2013 MP4-12C vehicles that were ever registered in specific states and U.S. territories, including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These vehicles contain passenger front air bag inflators that may explode during a crash deployment due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. An inflator explosion could send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.

To address this issue, McLaren will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator at no charge. Owners of potentially affected vehicles should contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916.
