Mazda is recalling certain 2009-2011 Mazda6 vehicles and 2007-2011 CX-7 and CX-9 vehicles due to a defect in the passenger frontal air bag inflator module. The inflators may rupture during a crash deployment due to propellant degradation from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, which could cause metal fragments to strike vehicle occupants and result in serious injury or death.
Mazda will notify owners and replace the affected passenger frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator at no cost. Owners should not drive their vehicles until this remedy is performed. Affected consumers should contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 with recall number 1317F, and dealers will schedule the free replacement.
