General Motors is recalling certain 2016-2017 Chevrolet Spark vehicles because of a safety issue with the front passenger air bag. If a young child is seated in the front passenger seat without a seat belt and the vehicle is involved in a crash, deployment of the front passenger air bag could injure the child's neck. These vehicles do not meet federal safety standards for occupant crash protection.
To address this issue, GM will notify owners and replace the passenger air bag module at no cost. The recall began on July 5, 2017. Owners of affected vehicles should contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and reference recall number 17199 to arrange for the free replacement.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Chevrolet Spark vehicles. In the event of a crash, if a young child is seated improperly and not wearing a seat belt while in the front passenger seat, deployment of the front passenger air bag may injure the occupant's neck. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
