Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2013-2016 model year vehicles including the SL550, SL63 AMG, E350, E350 Cabriolet, E350 Coupe, E350 Bluetec, E400, E550 Coupe, S550, and Maybach S600 manufactured between August 23, 2012, and August 14, 2015. These vehicles have an electric power steering system with improperly soldered contacts inside the control unit that may lose connection, which could cause a loss of electric power steering assist while driving and increase the risk of a crash. The faulty connections can also increase contact resistance, creating a fire risk even when the vehicle is parked with the ignition off.
MBUSA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the electric power steering control unit at no charge. The recall began October 13, 2017. Affected owners should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 to arrange the replacement.
