What happened

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2015-2017 Thomas Built Buses school buses manufactured between July 15, 2014, and July 21, 2016, that are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lifts. The lifts contain folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, allowing bearings to shift out of position. If the bearings move, the stowed wheelchair platform can move excessively and fail, potentially causing the platform to fall from the vehicle when doors are opened, which could injure the lift operator.

Owners will be notified by DTNA, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and check the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost. Affected owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712, Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884, or email admin16E020@wabtec.com. The recall number is FL-716.

Hazard

If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

What should I do?

DTNA will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on October 10, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712, or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884 or by email at admin16E020@wabtec.com. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-716.
