Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain Thomas Built Buses from model years 1998 through 2017, including the Saf-T-Liner Conventional, Saf-T-Liner ER, Saf-T-Liner MVP-EF, Vista, Saf-T-Liner FS65, Saf-T-Liner C2, Saf-T-Liner MVP-ER, and Saf-T-Liner HDX models. The stem connecting the outside emergency door handle to the emergency door opening mechanism can corrode, which may cause the door handle to detach from the mechanism. If this occurs, it could delay opening the door and evacuating the bus during an emergency, potentially increasing the risk of injury to bus occupants.
Owners who have received recall notices should contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 to schedule service. Dealers will replace the stems or protect them against corrosion at no cost to the owner. Parts are currently available. DTNA's recall number for this issue is FL-713.

If the stem corrodes, the door handle could detach from the emergency door opening mechanism, delaying the opening of the door and the evacuation of the bus. In the event of an emergency, this may increase the risk of injury to the bus occupants.
DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will either replace the stems or protect them against corrosion, free of charge. An interim notice was sent to owners on July 28, 2016. A second notice was mailed to owners on December 16, 2016. Parts are available. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-713.
