What happened

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain 2015-2016 Winnebago Tour and Itasca Ellipse motor homes manufactured between August 29, 2014, and November 4, 2015, that were built on a Freightliner chassis. The steering box in these vehicles may contain an incorrectly manufactured spacer with insufficient height, which can cause excessive play and wear in the connection between the steering wheel and front axle. This defect could result in a sudden loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Daimler Trucks of North America will notify owners, and Freightliner dealers will inspect and replace the steering gears at no charge. The recall began on May 31, 2016. Owners are urged not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected. To arrange an inspection, owners should contact Freightliner at 1-800-547-0712.
