What happened

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. is recalling certain Trans Tech Student Safety Transporter (SST) and ST Aero school buses from model years 2014-2016 manufactured between January 2, 2014, and January 1, 2016, that are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lifts. The platform side plates on these lifts may crack, and the folding link arms may have pivot holes that are too large, causing bearings to shift out of position. If the platform side plates crack or the mounting fails due to misaligned bearings, the lift platform can separate and fall against the vehicle's lift door, potentially striking the lift operator when the doors are opened.

To address this issue, Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and examine the platform for cracks. Any damaged components will be replaced at no cost to owners. The recall began on June 28, 2016. Owners should contact Transportation Collaborative customer service at 1-845-988-0419 for assistance.

Hazard

If the platform side plates crack or the platform mounting fails from out-of-position bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the vehicle's doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing their risk of injury.

What should I do?

Transportation Collaborative will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on June 28, 2016. Owners may contact Transportation Collaborative customer service at 1-845-988-0419.
