What happened

Mobility Works is recalling certain 2014-2015 Ford E-150, E-250, E-350, and Chevrolet Express 2500 vans equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models (S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510) manufactured between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2015. The lifts have a defect where the platform side plates can crack and the folding link arms may have pivot holes that are too large, allowing bearings to move out of position. If this occurs, the lift platform can separate from the lift and fall against the vehicle's lift door, potentially striking the lift operator when the doors are opened.

To remedy the issue, Mobility Works will notify owners and Ricon dealers will perform a free inspection of the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost. Owners should contact Mobility Works customer service at 1-800-769-8267, referencing recall number 16E-020.

Hazard

If the platform side plates crack or the platform mounting fails from out-of-position bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the vehicle's doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing their risk of injury.

What should I do?

Mobility Works will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on June 17, 2016. Owners may contact Mobility Works customer service at 1-800-769-8267. Mobility Works' number for this recall is 16E-020.
