What happened

Collins Bus Corporation is recalling certain 2016 school buses manufactured between January and February 2016. The affected vehicles include DH416 models built on Ford chassis (manufactured February 18–19, 2016) and DE516 models built on Chevrolet chassis (manufactured January 18–February 19, 2016). These buses are equipped with seats that may separate from the base frame due to bolt failure, which violates federal safety standards for school bus seating and crash protection.

In the event of a crash, seat separation could increase the risk of injury to occupants. To address this issue, Collins will notify owners and the seat manufacturer will replace the affected seats at no charge. The recall began on June 17, 2016. Owners of affected buses should contact Collins customer service at 1-800-533-1850 and reference recall number 16E037.
