Is my product affected?

2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SLK300

  • Brand MERCEDES-BENZ

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2016 SLK300 vehicles manufactured between June 2, 2015 and July 14, 2015 that are equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission. These vehicles have a defective backup power supply connection for the ignition switch. If the main vehicle battery loses power while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission cannot be shifted to Park and the electric parking brake cannot be applied, leaving the brake pedal as the only way to prevent the vehicle from moving.

This creates a safety hazard because when a driver attempts to exit the vehicle, it may roll, potentially causing injury. MBUSA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will correct the ignition switch wiring and perform a software update at no charge. The recall began on May 9, 2016. Owners of affected vehicles should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

Hazard

In this situation, without the backup power supply, the only way to keep the vehicle from moving is to press the brake pedal. As soon as the driver attempts to exit the vehicle, the vehicle may roll, increasing the risk of injury.

What should I do?

MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will correct the ignition switch wiring and perform a software update, free of charge. The recall began on May 9, 2016. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
