What happened

Supreme Corporation is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 shuttle buses (Azure Hybrid, Candidate, Senator, Senator HD, Senator II, President, President S2, Sentinel, and Trolley) manufactured between May 9, 2008, and August 9, 2014, that are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models (S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510). The problem affects folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, which can allow bearings to move out of position. If this occurs, the stowed platform may move excessively and fail, potentially causing the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when doors are opened and injuring the lift operator.

To address this issue, Supreme dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost. Owners should contact Supreme customer service at 1-800-642-4889 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884 for inspection and repair. The record notes that all vehicles that received a remedy for a similar 2014 recall remain affected by this recall.

Hazard

If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

What should I do?

Supreme will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on March 14, 2016, 2016. Owners may contact Supreme customer service at 1-800-642-4889, or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884. Note: These buses and wheelchair lifts were subject to a similar recall in 2014. All vehicles that received that recall remedy are still affected by this recall as well.
