What happened

Maserati is recalling certain 2014 Quattroporte GTS V8 vehicles manufactured between October 1, 2013, and December 31, 2013, due to a potential electrical system hazard in the starter assembly. The battery positive cable connected to the starter motor may lack a properly installed protective cap or may not be adequately secured in the engine bay, which could cause the cable to short to ground. If this occurs, the wiring harness may overheat and catch fire, and the vehicle may stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Maserati will notify owners of affected vehicles. Dealers will inspect each vehicle to verify that the starter motor cable has a properly installed protective cap and is adequately secured. If the cable does not meet these requirements, the starter motor cable assembly will be replaced at no charge. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737 with questions about this recall, which is identified as recall number 279.
