General Motors is recalling certain 2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD trucks and 2007-2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks. These vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag inflator that may be damaged by moisture over time. If the air bag deploys in a crash, the damaged inflator could rupture and send metal fragments toward vehicle occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.
To remedy this defect, GM will notify owners and replace the front passenger air bag inflator at no cost through authorized dealers. The recall began on July 27, 2015. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 to arrange the replacement. GM's recall numbers for this issue are 15438 and 15817.
