Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 All American rear engine non-school buses manufactured between December 7, 2008, and May 11, 2015, that are equipped with specific Cummins Westport ISL G engines. These vehicles may experience excessive engine crankcase pressures that could cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, potentially allowing engine oil to contact hot surfaces and increasing the risk of fire.
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Blue Bird and will perform the repairs at no charge through Cummins service centers. The repairs involve securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module with software to adjust engine output under misfire conditions and limit crankcase pressures.
