Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 All American rear engine school buses manufactured between December 7, 2008, and May 11, 2015, that are equipped with certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines. The recall addresses a defect in which excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, potentially allowing engine oil to contact hot surfaces and increasing the risk of fire.
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Blue Bird and will perform repairs at Cummins service centers at no charge. The repairs include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module with software designed to adjust engine output under misfire conditions and limit crankcase pressures. The recall began June 12, 2015. Affected owners should contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357, referencing recall number R15YE-SB.
