2015 CHEVROLET COLORADO; 2015 GMC CANYON
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
General Motors is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles due to a defect in the driver's front air bag inflator. In these vehicles, the inflator may be misaligned to the air bag module backplate, which could cause it to separate from the backplate if the air bag deploys during a crash. If separation occurs, the air bag or steering wheel components could detach and be forcefully propelled into the vehicle's interior, potentially causing serious injury to the driver or other occupants. Additionally, the air bag may fail to inflate properly, increasing injury risk.
The recall affects Chevrolet Colorado vehicles manufactured between September 15, 2014, and January 21, 2015, and GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured between October 3, 2014, and December 9, 2014. GM began notifying owners in March 2015. Dealers will inspect the driver air bag module inflator for proper alignment and replace the air bag if necessary at no charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 (recall number 15037).

If the inflator separates from the back plate in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, this may cause the air bag or steering wheel components to separate and be propelled into the interior compartment, potentially seriously injuring the driver or other occupants. Additionally, the air bag may fail to properly inflate, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.
GM has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the driver air bag module inflator for proper alignment, replacing the air bag, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15037.
