What happened

Nissan North America is recalling certain 2008 Infiniti EX35 vehicles with the power tilt/telescope premium package option, 2009 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles, and 2009 Nissan GT-R vehicles manufactured between March 2007 and April 2008. The steering column outer tube may not be perfectly round, which places extra stress on the upper steering bearing and can cause the bearing retainer to fracture, leading to excessive play in the steering wheel or complete loss of steering control, increasing crash risk.

Nissan dealers will replace the steering shaft on affected Infiniti EX35, FX35, and FX45 vehicles and the steering column assembly on Nissan GT-R vehicles at no charge. The recall began on March 9, 2015. Infiniti owners should contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200, and Nissan GT-R owners should call the GT-R hotline at 1-866-668-1487 to arrange service.
