MOTORCRAFT STEERING GEAR STG-454

  • Brand MOTORCRAFT

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Ford is recalling certain Motorcraft STG-454 steering gears manufactured between July 1, 2014, and October 17, 2014, that were installed as service replacements on 2008-2010 Ford F-250 and F-350 vehicles with 6.4L diesel engines. These steering gears may not install properly, resulting in insufficient clamp load on the joints, which can cause the steering gear retention bolts to fracture and lead to a loss of steering control and increased crash risk.

Ford will fix this problem by having dealers install a spacer between the steering gear and vehicle frame rail at no charge to owners. An interim notice was mailed on April 22, 2015, and a second notice will be mailed when parts become available. According to the record, affected consumers should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall number 15S08) to arrange the repair.
