What happened

Ameritrail, Inc. is recalling certain 2011 Ranch King trailers (models GN24-21E, GN36-25D42, GN40-21D42, and MFDD36-242) equipped with specific Carlisle Hydrastar and Hydrastar XL brake actuators. A rotating component in the hydraulic pump within these actuators missed a required heat treating operation during manufacturing, causing the actuators to wear faster than normal. This defect could lead to hydraulic pump failure and complete loss of braking ability in the trailer.

Loss of braking ability can cause the trailer to become uncontrollable, significantly increasing the risk of crashes, serious injuries, and property damage. To address this issue, Ameritrail dealers will replace the affected actuators at no cost to owners. The recall began on July 29, 2014. Owners of affected trailers should contact Ameritrail customer service at 1-407-892-1100 to arrange the replacement.
