What happened

PACCAR is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 Peterbilt trucks (models 579, 388, 384, 367, 365, 348, and 337) manufactured between October 30, 2009, and May 21, 2014. These vehicles have a defect in the side air bag system where a power interruption to the seat electronic control unit—such as when the fuse blows—disables the side air bag without triggering a warning lamp to alert the driver of the problem.

The hazard is that drivers may not realize their side air bag is not functioning, which increases the risk of injury in a rollover accident. PACCAR dealers will install a new electrical harness to fix the problem at no cost to owners. The recall began in July 2014. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 to schedule the repair, and can reference recall number 514-F.
