PACCAR Inc. is recalling certain 2014-2015 Kenworth and Peterbilt tractor trailers equipped with specific Cummins Westport engines manufactured between January 2013 and February 2014. The affected vehicles have an intake manifold pressure sensor that may malfunction when condensation freezes in cold weather, potentially causing elevated exhaust temperatures or flames to exit the exhaust pipe. This defect increases the risk of vehicle fires or burn injuries to people near the exhaust.
To remedy the issue, authorized Cummins service facilities will upload new engine computer calibration software at no cost to owners. Owners of affected vehicles should contact PACCAR at 1-425-468-7400. The recall began on April 12, 2014, and customers can reference recall number 14KWG for Kenworth vehicles or 214-C for Peterbilt vehicles.
