What happened

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2012 through 2014 model year Kenworth K300 and Peterbilt 210 and 220 chassis equipped with Sure Power-brand battery equalizers or DC-DC converters. These components contain a potting compound—an epoxy sealing material used for electrical insulation—that can conduct electricity when exposed to heat, creating an increased risk of vehicle fire and personal injury.

PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will replace the defective component with a new battery equalizer or DC-DC converter at no charge. The recall began on March 31, 2014. Affected consumers should contact PACCAR at 1-425-468-7400, or reference Kenworth recall number 14KWD or Peterbilt recall number 1213J when contacting their dealer.

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2012 through 2014 model year Kenworth K300 and Peterbilt 210 and 220 chassis equipped with Sure Power-brand battery equalizers or DC-DC converters containing a particular epoxy sealing, aka 'potting', compound. The specific potting compound used in the subject products for electrical insulation was found to be capable of conducting electricity after being exposed to heat.
