What happened

Mazda is recalling certain 2001-2004 Tribute vehicles that were manufactured between May 22, 2000, and December 19, 2003, and are currently registered in specific northeastern and midwestern states plus the District of Columbia. These vehicles may experience excessive corrosion at the forward attachment of the lower control arm, which can cause the lower control arm to separate and result in a significant loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles, and dealers will install a newly designed reinforcement cross-brace at no charge. The recall began on May 29, 2014. Owners of potentially affected vehicles should contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500 and reference recall number 7514D.
