Navistar is recalling certain 2011-2014 International DuraStar trucks and 2012-2014 International TerraStar trucks intended for emergency vehicle use that were manufactured between February 25, 2010, and February 18, 2013, and equipped with 2010 MaxxForce 7 V8 diesel engines. These vehicles have a defect in the Engine Warning Protection Shutdown system that may cause the engine to shut down if certain engine faults occur, which could interfere with rescue operations and increase the risk of injury to occupants.
Navistar will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will recalibrate the engine control module software at no cost to disable the Engine Warning Protection Shutdown system. The recall began on March 12, 2014. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Navistar at 1-331-332-5000 and reference recall number 14505 to schedule service with an authorized dealer.
