What happened

Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain 2012-2013 Arrow XT and Velocity emergency vehicles manufactured between January 1, 2012, and June 14, 2013. These vehicles contain quarter-turn ball valves installed between the glad hands connectors and the parking brake system. If these valves are left in the closed position, air pressure can build up on the parking brake circuit side, which may prevent the spring park brakes from engaging when the parking brake valve is activated in the vehicle's cab. This defect could allow the vehicle to roll unexpectedly, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.

To remedy this issue, Pierce will notify owners and dealers will remove the quarter-turn ball valves and connect the glad hand signal hose directly into the primary air tank at no charge. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Affected consumers should contact Pierce Manufacturing at 1-920-832-3000 and reference recall number 74B243 to schedule service.
