Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain fire apparatus bodies from model years 2005, 2008-2011 with various model names (Arrow XT, Custom Contender, Dash, Enforcer, Impel, Quantum, Saber, and Velocity 75 Foot HAL) manufactured between May 17, 2005, and October 13, 2011. These vehicles may have dual SCBA cylinder storage compartments with doors that were manufactured with incorrect latch orientation, which can cause the door to open accidentally while the vehicle is in motion without warning to the driver.
If the compartment door opens while the vehicle is moving, the SCBA cylinders may fall out and onto the roadway, creating a risk of crashes or injuries to pedestrians. Pierce dealers will notify owners and will install a flat reinforcement plate spanning the length of the SCBA door at no charge. Owners should contact Pierce at 1-920-832-3000.
