What happened

Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain 2009-2011 Arrow XT and Velocity fire apparatus manufactured between June 30, 2009, and March 15, 2011. These vehicles have Michelin 365/70R22.5 XZA tires installed on 12.25-inch-wide wheels on the front axle, but these tires are designed for 10.5-inch-wide wheels. This mismatch can cause the tire bead to separate from the rim, potentially resulting in tire failure that could cause the vehicle to crash without warning.

Dealers will replace the front axle wheels and tires free of charge by installing new 10.5-inch-wide wheels and new Michelin 365/70R22.5 ZXA tires. The recall began on April 15, 2011. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Pierce Manufacturing at 1-920-832-3000.

Hazard

THE WIDER 12.25 INCH WHEEL MAY CAUSE THE TIRE BEAD TO SEPARATE FROM THE RIM. THIS TIRE BEAD SEPARATION CAN CAUSE A TIRE FAILURE THAT MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

What should I do?

DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW 10.5 INCH WIDE WHEELS AND NEW MICHELIN 365/70R22.5 ZXA TIRES ON THE FRONT AXLE OF THE FIRE APPARATUS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 15, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PIERCE AT 1-920-832-3000.
