Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain model year 2007-2013 Velocity, Impel, and Dash CF emergency vehicles manufactured between June 6, 2007, and May 31, 2013. The outer door handle springs may not be stiff enough to prevent the door from opening inadvertently during certain impacts, which fails to meet federal safety standards. If a door opens during a crash, it could fail to contain emergency personnel or equipment inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Pierce will notify vehicle owners, and authorized dealers will replace the door handle spring with a stiffer one at no charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Pierce Manufacturing at 1-920-832-3000 for more information. The recall began on June 28, 2013, and Pierce's recall number is 74B242.
