Is my product affected?

2008 ZAP XEBRA

  • Brand ZAP

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Qingqi Group Motorcycle Co., Ltd., doing business as ZAP, is recalling all 2008 ZAP Xebra motorcycles manufactured throughout 2008. These motorcycles have a brake system design flaw where the brake fluid reservoirs are not separate for each brake circuit and lack individual covers, seals, and retention devices. This design allows brake fluid to move between circuits, which means that if one brake circuit develops a leak, both circuits could lose fluid and compromise the motorcycle's stopping ability.

ZAP will notify owners and provide either an installation service or a remedy kit to fix the problem. The source does not specify when notifications will be sent. Owners of affected motorcycles should contact ZAP Customer Service at 1-800-251-4555.

Hazard

Without a separate reservoir for each brake, having its own cover, seal, and cover retention device, fluid for one brake circuit may move to the other. If this happens, both reservoirs could lose fluid as a result of a fluid leak in one brake circuit and compromise the stopping ability of the braking system, increasing the risk of a crash.

What should I do?

ZAP will notify owners and ZAP will install or send each owner a remedy kit to bring the vehicles into compliance. ZAP has not provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact ZAP Customer Service at 1-800-251-4555.
