What happened

Collins Bus Corporation is recalling certain 2012 Collins, Mid-Bus, and Corbeil SL, SH, DH, and DE model school and multi-function school activity buses manufactured between March 15, 2012, and October 30, 2012. These buses are equipped with Spectal split sash emergency egress windows that may have manufacturing defects including improperly installed retainer bars, insufficient strength of the latch connecting rod, and missing or failed window fasteners. In a crash, these defects could prevent occupants from exiting the bus or cause windows to become unsecured, increasing injury risk to passengers and people outside the vehicle.

Collins will notify owners of affected buses, and authorized dealers will repair the buses at no charge. The recall began in September 2012. Owners of affected buses should contact Collins Bus Corporation at 1-800-533-1850 to have their vehicles repaired.

Hazard

In the event of a crash, vehicle occupants may not be able to exit the bus, increasing the risk of injury. If all the fasteners on a single retaining bar failed, the window would not remain secured to the bus, creating a risk of injury for passengers or persons outside of the bus.

What should I do?

Collins will notify owners, and dealers will repair the buses free of charge. The safety recall began during September 2012. Owners may contact Collins at 1-800-533-1850.
