What happened

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2012 Thomas Built SAF-T-LINER school buses manufactured between February 24, 2011, and August 3, 2011, that are equipped with specific bulk-head module software versions. A software defect in these vehicles may cause the side marker and directional lights to stop working after 5 to 13 minutes of operation, which reduces the visibility of the bus and its intended direction of travel to other drivers and increases crash risk.

The manufacturer will notify owners, and authorized Daimler Trucks service facilities will update the bulk-head module software at no charge. The recall began on February 2, 2012. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Daimler Trucks North America at 1-800-547-0712.
