What happened

Eldorado National-California, Inc. is recalling certain 2011 commercial buses manufactured between November 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011, with models EZ Rider II Max, Transmark, XHF, and Axess equipped with Cummins ISB, ISL, ISC, or ISX diesel engines. The recall involves V-band clamp assemblies (part numbers Q187684, Q187685, and Q187686) that connect inlet and outlet cone sections to the diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter housing. The T-bolts in these clamps can fracture and fail under stress, causing the clamps to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections to disconnect.

If the inlet or outlet sections disconnect, hot exhaust gases can vent before exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion and fire. If both clamps fail, the diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter housing may detach completely in some applications, creating a road hazard. The recall began on October 10, 2011. Authorized Cummins dealers will perform repairs free of charge. Affected consumers should contact Cummins at 1-812-377-5000 or Eldorado at 1-909-591-9557 to inquire about the recall.

Hazard

IF THE INLET OR OUTLET SECTIONS DISCONNECT, HOT EXHAUST GASES CAN VENT PRIOR TO EXITING THE TAILPIPE, CREATING THE RISK OF COMBUSTION AND A FIRE. IF BOTH CLAMPS FAIL, THERE IS A RISK IN SOME APPLICATIONS THAT THE DOC/DPF HOUSING MAY DETACH COMPLETELY, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD.

What should I do?

ELDORADO IS WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO IDENTIFY AND NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED BY AUTHORIZED CUMMINS DEALERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 10, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 1-812-377-5000 OR ELDORADO AT 1-909-591-9557.
