What happened

Eldorado National is recalling certain 2008-2010 model year Aero Elite, Aerolite, Aerotech, TransTech, and Versa Shuttle motorhomes equipped with Ricon S Series and K Series L-Model wheelchair lifts. The wheelchair lifts contain defective software that can cause the platform to continue moving upward for about one second after the operator releases the switch, potentially overrunning the vehicle floor level. When the platform stops at an angle between 15 and 20 degrees, this defect creates a risk that a person in a wheelchair could tip over or someone standing on the platform could fall, potentially causing injuries.

Eldorado National and Ricon are working together to repair the lifts through authorized Ricon dealers. Ricon will provide owners with a bulletin on proper wheelchair lift operation and will mail owners a DVD-based training aid. Affected owners should contact Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 or email dmata@wabtec.com. The recall repairs were expected to begin in August 2010.

Hazard

WHEN THE PLATFORM OVERRUNS THE VEHICLE FLOOR LEVEL AND STOPS AT AN ANGLE FROM 15-20 DEGREES, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR A PERSON IN A WHEELCHAIR TO TIP OVER AND FOR SOMEONE STANDING ON THE PLATFORM TO FALL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURIES.

What should I do?

ELDORADO NATIONAL IS WORKING WITH RICON AND THE REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED BY AUTHORIZED RICON DEALERS PLEASE SEE RICON'S DEFECT REPORT 09E-061. RICON WILL PROVIDE OWNERS WITH A BULLETIN OUTLINING PROPER WHEELCHAIR LIFT OPERATION AND WILL SHIP OWNERS A DVD-BASED TRAINING AID TO PROMOTE PROPER LIFT OPERATION. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-322-2884, OR EMAILING AT WWW.DMATA@WABTEC.COM.
