What happened

Genie Industries is recalling certain TZ-34 and TZ-50 trailer-mounted aerial work platform booms manufactured between May 2, 2011 and June 30, 2011 that contain a newly designed motor controller component. The same motor controller component was also installed as a replacement part on TMZ 34/19 and TMZ 50 models between April 13, 2011 and July 13, 2011 under part number 96769 and kit 99854. The motor controller in these units can fail, which creates a fire hazard.

To address this issue, Genie will notify owners and repair the affected equipment at no charge through authorized dealers. The safety recall began on August 2, 2011. Owners of affected equipment should contact Genie's Service Department at 1-800-536-1800 to arrange for the free repair.

GENIE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 2, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT GENIE'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-536-1800.
