What happened

Ford is recalling certain 2011 model year F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured between October 25, 2010, and November 20, 2010. These vehicles have body control modules that may develop an internal electrical short, which could cause an overheating condition and potentially result in a vehicle fire. The issue arose because a custom diagnostic software routine used during inspection was unable to correctly identify which modules needed replacement.

To address this safety issue, dealers will inspect the body control module in affected vehicles at no charge and replace it if necessary. The safety recall began on March 7, 2011. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332 to arrange an inspection and any needed repair.
