Reclining cradle (BabySam)

Is my product affected?

Reclining cradle

  • Brand BabySam

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

The BabySam reclining cradle poses multiple injury risks to infants. A child's fingers can be pinched or crushed between the toy bar and seat, and the cradle can tip over if a child leans forward due to insufficient stability. The carrying handles can detach if their stitching becomes damaged during use, risking the caregiver dropping the cradle. Additionally, the toy bar's design and color may cause caregivers to mistake it for a rigid carrying handle like those on car seats; lifting the cradle by the toy bar causes it to tip backward rapidly, potentially ejecting the child since the waist belt harness alone cannot prevent this. Two accidents have been reported. The product does not meet the European standard EN 12790.

The product was ordered to be withdrawn from the market effective September 11, 2013. The record does not specify what action affected consumers should take regarding this product.

Hazard

null There is a risk of injuries because:- the child´s finger may be pinched or crushed between the toy bar and the seat.- if the child leans forward the cradle can tip over due to lack of stability.- if the stitching on the carrying handles is damaged during use, the handles can detach from the seat and there is a risk that the carer drops the cradle.Due to the design and colour of the toy bar there is a risk that it could be mistaken for a rigid carrying handle, as found on babies' car seats for example. If the carer lifts the cradle by the toy bar the seat will tip backwards very quickly causing the child to fall out. The harness will not prevent this from happening because it only consists of a waist belt, which the child can slide out of should it fall backwards. Two accidents reported. The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 12790.
